The Suffolk evolved from the mating of Norfolk Horn ewes with Southdown rams in the Bury St Edmunds area, these sheep were known as Southdown Norfolks, or locally as "Black faces."
Originally renowned as a producer of mutton, the breed has developed over the years to match consumer demand. The exceptional growth rate of the Suffolk contributes to their outstanding performance and popularity as the leading terminal sire in the British Isles.
The 'Stonedge' Suffolk Sheep flock was established in 2004, from the purchase of 20 in lamb ewes and 3 ewe lambs from the 'Bubnell' flock dispersal in late 2003.
These ewes have bred well for us during the past 2 years using a FOSSE ram purchased at Stafford in 2004. He has put great size and power in to our sheep giving us a great platform to build some good figures from.
FOSSE FEARLESS FIGO
For 2007 we tried to increase the bloodlines within our flock using 5 different tups. This means we now have some excellent EBV figures in the flock from DRINKSTONE SUPERSIRE 05, and some thriftiness and size from the New Zealand ram SCOTSBURN K66, plus some excellent breeding stock from STRATHISLA SINATRA and PLASLEWELLYN PRINCE OF WALES
We had quite a good show record in 2007 before it was brought to an abrupt end by the dreaded Foot & Mouth outbreak.

We are rapidly approaching our 2008 lambing season, beginning on 14th Jan.
For 2008 we have used two rams that we bought from the National Sale at Shrewsbury earlier in the year plus using the Fosse ram on our older ewes. We have again used a New Zealand ram as we were very pleased with the results from 2007.
